Health in Auckland

Healthcare paperwork can look clear while hiding a missing approval, outdated service name or unresolved policy question. Our Claude workshop teaches staff to keep those issues visible. Projects can hold permitted reference documents and instructions, so the exercise begins with a defined source set and a reviewer who knows what the service actually does.5

TheColab can come to an Auckland health workplace for an administrative session. A generic practice task compares a public visitor guide with a fictional service-change notice. Staff identify statements that need confirmation before drafting a replacement. The task does not use clinical records, make treatment recommendations or represent a named provider as a training client.

Paid employees in health went from 77,947 in February 2020 to 95,427 in February 2025 (+22.4%).

Local context

  • Allevia Health's 2025 announcement brings hospital, radiology and breast services under a group identity and describes changes to forms and stationery. That provides a concrete local reason to practise consistent administrative wording.11
  • The University of Auckland places its health-sciences faculty at Grafton, opposite Auckland City Hospital. The region contains both health education and service delivery, but their tool permissions must be checked separately.22

Organisations are named for local context only. No relationship with them is implied.

Where Claude helps health teams

  • Read an administrative policy pack

Use a Project to compare approved administrative policies and identify conflicting instructions about document ownership or escalation. Ask for exact passages and flag a question the papers do not answer. The policy owner decides which instruction applies; the participant's job is to make the disagreement easy to inspect, not settle it through generated text.5

    • Service administration manager
    • Claude Projects and long policy documents
  • Check service-change wording

Provide a fictional change notice and public information sheet, then request a list of inconsistent names, contact points and descriptions. Staff verify the proposed corrections with the service owner. Preserve any uncertainty about the change rather than allowing Claude to write a smooth announcement that suggests an unconfirmed service is already operating.5

    • Communications coordinator
    • Projects document comparison
  • Prototype a staff orientation aid

Create an artifact from approved non-clinical orientation material, such as office contacts and document locations. Test a fictional new starter's questions and check whether the aid directs them to a person when the answer is missing. Review every visible item before sharing the prototype, and exclude patient information from both the input and display.6

    • Administrative team leader
    • Claude artifacts
  • Review a public-information utility

Technical staff can use Claude Code on a separate test repository to inspect a small utility that checks public service names against an approved list. Request a reviewable patch and test old names, empty fields and unexpected characters. The developer approves the result; no live patient system or production publishing credentials belong in the exercise.7

    • Claude Code

Review a fictional service-change pack

  1. Choose public or locally approved administrative documents and state the exact review question.
  2. Ask Claude to show conflicts beside the supporting text rather than choosing a policy itself.
  3. Have the service owner resolve the conflicts and approve the facts for a draft.
  4. Check the final information sheet against the agreed facts before any publication step.

Health in Auckland: questions

Can we learn without bringing patient files?

Yes. Public visitor information, approved office policies and fictional service changes can support the document exercises. Staff can learn to spot an unsupported statement without exposing an individual's health history or testing advice about their care.

Does this training establish permission to use Claude?

Permission comes from your organisation's governance process. For Health NZ work, its guidance directs proposed AI use through an advisory process.3 We can demonstrate the method with suitable examples while the organisation determines what tool use it will authorise.

What makes a policy comparison useful?

A useful comparison shows the original text, identifies the conflict and names the person who must resolve it. Check the document version and scope as well as the wording. An apparently precise answer may still combine policies written for different services.

Can our technical team join the foundations session?

They can help assess the internal-tool idea and identify a safe test environment. Keep the coding exercise separate from ordinary document use, and involve someone who can evaluate the proposed change before it affects a real service.
