Health in Canterbury
Canterbury's documented service mix includes Pegasus Health's primary-care support and education work, and Southern Cross Christchurch's specialist hospital campus.1,2 Those settings make staff information and administrative document review useful workshop topics. We use a fictional provider to explore how an unclear office instruction could confuse a colleague, then improve it against the source.
Claude Projects let you supply a defined knowledge set and project instructions.5 A document exercise can therefore begin with approved public material, a specific audience and a rule for missing evidence. Ask Claude to identify uncertainty before drafting. The person who owns the service information must resolve it; the tool should not fill a gap with a clinical assumption.
Paid employees in health went from 34,964 in February 2020 to 40,559 in February 2025 (+16.0%).

Local context
- ChristchurchNZ's health-sector profile connects local education, research and technology, including AI-related innovation.3 Use that context to discuss possible administrative applications. Treat research interest separately from evidence that a tool has been assessed for direct patient use.3

Where Claude helps health teams
Compare public office guidance
Provide current and previous public service-information extracts. Ask Claude to identify changed directions, missing contact channels and wording that needs an owner check. Verify each quoted passage in its original document. Limit the task to administration; even a simple rewrite can accidentally change the meaning of a clinical instruction.
- Information coordinators
- Projects and long documents
Create a staff-learning artifact
Artifacts support editable documents and interactive tools.6 Design a fictional induction exercise about locating office forms and escalating incomplete requests. Include examples where the correct action is to ask a person. Let a new staff member test the draft, then have the procedure owner check the path it recommends.
- Workforce education staff
- Artifacts
Organise a service-planning brief
Use a restricted Project to combine public provider descriptions with fabricated planning notes. Request a brief that separates the documented service from suggested options. Keep unsupported claims in a review list. A manager checks the evidence before the draft is discussed with staff or used to support a funding proposal.
- Service development managers
- Project knowledge and instructions
Test an administrative data reader
A developer can use Claude Code to inspect and change a sample reporting utility.7 Work with synthetic stationery-order files and test blank values, inconsistent categories and rejected records. Review the code changes and the resulting report together. Keep the exercise isolated from clinical integrations and any production account.

- Claude Code
A source-led induction resource
- Select public administrative guidance and define the role the exercise will train.
- Ask Claude to identify the source passages relevant to that role.
- Check the passages and resolve the unclear points with the information owner.
- Draft an artifact for the induction activity, then test it with a fictional incomplete request.

Health in Canterbury: questions
Are the exercises suitable for community providers?
They can cover service-office work without assuming a hospital setting. Choose public information, a fictional planning brief or an induction task. The organiser and service owner should agree an audience and a review standard before the session.
Can we upload patient letters after removing names?
Do not treat name removal as sufficient approval. Details can remain identifiable through circumstances or other records. Use a fabricated letter in training and ask the organisation's information lead to assess any proposed use of real material.4
What does the developer component cover?
It demonstrates an isolated administrative utility and its tests. Developers inspect the diff and validate the output with synthetic records. Clinical software, patient systems and production access require a separate authorised project with the organisation's review process.
How can our team join a session?
Arrange a Canterbury workplace workshop for the staff who own the selected document process. TheColab comes to your site with agreed exercises. Public workshop days are another route for individuals learning document and Project skills before a team programme.
