Health in Wellington

Wellington Hospital's published service list includes medical, maternity, surgical and children's health care.1 Wakefield's new Newtown facility opened in 2025 under a separate private operator.2 This mix supports practical exercises in clear service information and controlled documents, without assuming that either employer has approved Claude for patient records.

TheColab can teach at your organisation anywhere in the Wellington region or bring dispersed staff together remotely. Choose a public information sheet, a blank policy structure and fabricated administrative data. Policy owners, communications staff and technical colleagues can practise different parts of the same review process, with each person clear about what they must verify.

Local context

  • The Ministry of Health recognises administrative work as a potential AI use and says precision-health technology needs supervision and evaluation.7 Its screening example is outside Wellington. We use that national guidance as context for an administrative trial, while keeping local clinical deployment claims out of the training examples.7

Organisations are named for local context only. No relationship with them is implied.

Where Claude helps health teams

  • Compare controlled policy revisions

Create a Claude Project with approved versions of a non-clinical policy and a change request. Projects can hold uploaded references for focused document work.4 Ask for changed responsibilities, conflicting definitions and questions for the policy owner. Require the relevant passage beside each finding. The owner checks the full context before deciding which edits belong in the controlled version.

    • Quality or policy coordinator
    • Projects and long documents
  • Make service information readable

Ask Claude to rewrite an approved public service sheet for a reader unfamiliar with the process. Put the rewrite in a document artifact, which is a supported separate output.5 Preserve eligibility, contact details and any supplied clinical meaning. A communications reviewer checks clarity, and a suitable clinical owner checks content wherever the sheet includes health advice.

    • Service communications lead
    • Document artifacts
  • Prototype an administrative learning aid

Use an interactive artifact to practise a made-up stock-order or facilities-request process. Artifacts can include small tools and diagrams.5 Supply only approved administrative steps, then try incomplete requests and unclear categories. The prototype should show the source instruction and the person who resolves uncertainty. Treat it as a training aid until the service owner has tested it.

    • Administration trainer
    • Interactive artifacts
  • Test a public-information checker

A developer can use Claude Code on a sample repository to check for broken links and inconsistent headings in public information pages. Claude Code supports file edits and command execution.6 Review the proposed code, run tests on a local copy and inspect the findings manually. Keep any deployment step with the organisation's normal release process and authorised technical owner.

Review a service-sheet rewrite

  1. Select a public sheet whose current content owner can review the exercise.
  2. Request a plain-language draft and an explicit list of meaning-sensitive passages.
  3. Compare the draft with the original alongside the service and clinical reviewers.
  4. Save the agreed edits through the existing publication process.

Health in Wellington: questions

Can social service administrators join?

Social service staff can bring an approved administrative procedure or a public service guide. Select a review owner who knows its purpose, and practise with invented situations so clients cannot be identified from a narrative.

Will the session cover patient consultations?

The exercises on this page address non-clinical documentation. Any proposed consultation use requires a separate organisational assessment, suitable clinical governance and a data decision before real information enters the tool. The health privacy code remains relevant.3

How do staff check a policy summary?

Read the cited passage in the approved policy and look at its surrounding exceptions. Mark anything that the source does not establish. A policy owner must resolve ambiguous instructions before a summary becomes staff guidance.

What should a technical participant prepare?

Use a sample repository with no patient data or production access. Claude Code can read, edit and run development commands.6 Prepare a repeatable test and a manual check so the team can assess the proposed change.
