Health in Marlborough
Wairau Hospital's official listing includes medical, surgical, maternity and children's services in Blenheim.1 Marlborough Primary Health coordinates community care across Blenheim, Renwick, Picton and other locations.2 These are different service settings. A useful workshop teaches staff to preserve those distinctions when they simplify a policy or draft information for the public.
TheColab uses public material and invented administrative examples for the first Claude session. Projects can hold the selected source documents, and artifacts allow staff to revise the resulting document or diagram.6,7 Participants practise showing where a statement came from, flagging gaps and sending a draft to the appropriate owner for approval.
Paid employees in health went from 2,070 in February 2020 to 2,277 in February 2025 (+10.0%).

Local context
- Springlands Health's March 2025 notice introduced a virtual after-hours option, followed by a July notice about enrolment forms.3 These updates demonstrate real communication tasks around service changes. They provide context for a generic drafting exercise without establishing any local use of Claude or AI in clinical care.3
Organisations are named for local context only. No relationship with them is implied.

Where Claude helps health teams
Check an administrative policy revision
Load an approved public policy and a fictional revision into a Project. Ask Claude to identify changed responsibilities and cite the relevant headings. Project knowledge provides the bounded reference set.6 The policy owner checks each difference against the original. Make the exercise fail visibly when a source is missing, so participants learn to ask for clarification before accepting new instructions.
- Policy administrator
- Projects and long document review
Rewrite service information with a meaning check
Create an artifact for a generic practice notice about a changed booking process.7 Supply the confirmed instructions and require the draft to preserve the distinction between routine enquiries and urgent care. A service manager compares both versions line by line. Ask staff to explain why a short sentence may still be wrong if it drops an important condition.
- Practice communications coordinator
- Document artifacts
Make staff induction easier to navigate
Use a Project containing public service descriptions and approved non-clinical induction headings.6 Draft a guide that points a new administrator to the right owner for supplies, facilities and routine forms. Leave clinical escalation text to the organisation's approved guidance. A supervisor tests the guide with questions outside its scope and checks that the output admits when it cannot answer.
- Administration supervisor
- Projects with reference files
Map a forms process for review
Ask Claude for an artifact showing a fictional enrolment-form journey from receipt to administrative review. Artifacts support diagrams and small interactive outputs.7 Label each step by role rather than by a real staff member's name. Test an incomplete form and a duplicate submission. The process owner then checks the map against normal practice before sharing it with the team.
- Service improvement lead
- Artifacts for process diagrams
Approve a plain-language practice notice
- Select a public notice and identify the wording that must retain its clinical or operational meaning.
- Ask Claude for a clearer draft plus a list of meaning changes that need review.
- Have the service owner resolve those changes and file the accepted version through the usual process.

Health in Marlborough: questions
Is this intended for clinicians or office staff?
The starting lessons suit administrators, managers and clinicians doing non-clinical document work. Agree the purpose with the service lead so participants know which decisions remain outside the exercise.
Do we need patient examples to make it useful?
No patient record is needed. A fictional form, public service description or approved blank policy format can expose the same drafting problems while keeping the source material simple to review.
Can Claude decide what a policy change means?
It can help compare supplied wording in a Project.6 The policy owner must decide the implications and approve the result, including any wording that changes a clinical or operational responsibility.
Can you work with teams outside Blenheim?
We can bring training to health and social-service workplaces across Marlborough. Scope the audience, approved material and suitable room with TheColab before arranging delivery; public introductory workshops may also suit individual staff.
