Professional services in Otago
Polson Higgs describes accounting and business advisory work across Dunedin and the wider southern region. Anderson Lloyd lists legal offices in Dunedin and Queenstown. These are local anchors for a broad professional-services sector; their published profiles do not establish that either firm uses Claude.1,2
The workshop begins with a fictional engagement, a public background document and a cleared house-style guide. A generic Queenstown advisory team might need a proposal that defines scope and excludes unconfirmed assumptions. Staff learn to ask for evidence and open questions before they ask for polished prose.
Paid employees in professional services went from 17,512 in February 2020 to 17,202 in February 2025 (−1.8%).

Where Claude helps professional services teams
Build an engagement reference Project
Project knowledge can contain the files and instructions relevant to a recurring assignment. Practise organising a fictional engagement brief, approved service descriptions and writing guidance. Ask Claude to identify a source for each proposed deliverable. The engagement lead checks that the draft does not widen the scope or imply an agreement the fictional client has not made.5

Compare a report with its evidence
Use a long document exercise to challenge a draft report against the supplied reference pack. Request a list of unsupported statements and passages that need qualification. Limit the task to the files provided in the session. A reviewer then traces each issue back to the original document, including tables and appendices that a fluent summary might overlook.5
- Senior adviser
- Long documents and Project files
Edit a decision table as an artifact
Artifacts can display an editable document or small interactive tool. Create a draft comparison of service options using assumptions supplied by the participants. Separate quoted source information from the team's own judgement. Ask a colleague to test whether an empty input produces an obvious warning, and remove any visual treatment that makes an unverified estimate look settled.6
- Practice operations lead

Inspect a reporting utility with Claude Code
For the technical group, use Claude Code to examine an isolated internal utility with synthetic data. A suitable exercise is adding validation for a missing report period. The tool can inspect and edit code, but the developer still reviews the change, runs meaningful tests and checks the resulting output. Keep credentials and live client systems outside the training repository.7

Check a fictional engagement proposal
- Gather the approved brief and service references.
- Identify the scope decisions that need a human answer.
- Ask Claude to draft only the supported proposal sections.
- Review assumptions and exclusions with the engagement owner.
- Keep the approved version and its evidence in the normal matter file.

Professional services in Otago: questions
Can non-technical advisers join the session?
The document exercises suit people who read and write for their work. They do not require coding experience. Developers can take the utility exercise as a separate track, while other participants concentrate on evidence, drafting and review.
Should we bring a real client matter?
Begin with a fictional scenario or a public document that has been cleared for use. Your practice must make the later decision about client material. A sample should preserve the document problem without exposing identities, advice or commercially sensitive terms.
Will Claude verify legal authorities for us?
Use the legal example to practise locating unsupported claims, then verify authorities through the sources your practice trusts. The Law Society identifies professional risks in generated material. The responsible lawyer remains the reviewer of any legal analysis.3
Can the workshop run at our Otago office?
We can bring the session to your firm in Otago. Remote delivery and public workshop days can also suit smaller groups. Include the person who controls your approved documents so participants can learn a process they can maintain.
