Professional services in Nelson
Nelson has a distinctive research and digital services community. NRDA names Cawthron and the Nelson Artificial Intelligence Institute in its research profile, while Shuttlerock lists a Nelson location for its digital creative work. These employers provide local context for document-intensive training, without implying any relationship with TheColab.1,2
Our practitioners come to your office to work through a task with your team. A generic advisory firm might compare an engagement scope with a draft proposal; a research team might trace a conclusion through a report. Claude Projects provide instructions and reference knowledge for that work. Use the workshop to establish what an acceptable answer must contain before someone relies on it.5
Paid employees in professional services went from 4,345 in February 2020 to 4,367 in February 2025 (+0.5%).

Local context
- The Chamber's Aspire 2025 recap lists panels titled "AI & the Future of Work" and "Beyond the Gimmick". That is evidence of local discussion, not a measure of adoption across professional firms. Treat science, creative production, finance and property as different work contexts when choosing the practice documents.33
Organisations are named for local context only. No relationship with them is implied.

Where Claude helps professional services teams
Check the scope before a proposal goes out
Place a fictional engagement letter, meeting note and proposal inside a Project. Ask Claude to identify deliverables that appear only in the draft proposal, with the relevant passages beside each item. The engagement lead decides whether to change the scope or seek clarification. Project instructions can require a clear distinction between quoted evidence and a proposed interpretation.5
- Advisory engagement lead
- Projects and long documents
Prepare a technical review brief
Supply approved reports as reference files and ask for an outline organised by the research question. Require Claude to keep stated limitations beside each finding, rather than bury them at the end. Have a subject expert compare the outline with the long documents. This exercise practises reference-based drafting; it does not ask the assistant to validate scientific results.5
- Research programme manager
- Long document analysis
Inspect a client intake prototype
Build an artifact showing a fictional enquiry moving through scope, document receipt and reviewer allocation. Artifacts can hold an interactive tool or separate document for inspection. Ask colleagues to test unclear entries and conflicting instructions. The resulting prototype helps discuss the firm's process; it should not accept real client submissions until the firm designs and approves that service.6
- Practice operations manager
- Artifacts
Review a small reporting utility
For a technical practice, use Claude Code to improve a sample script that checks whether a report pack has required file names. Begin with synthetic folders and known failures. Ask for a proposed change, inspect the diff and run the agreed checks. Keep authorisation to merge and distribute the utility with the firm's technical owner.7

Build a source-traceable advisory draft
- Agree the audience, decision and approved reference pack.
- Define how the draft must label evidence, interpretation and missing material.
- Ask Claude for a review table before writing the final narrative.
- Have the engagement owner check passages and retain the corrected draft.

Professional services in Nelson: questions
Can we work with a long report?
Yes, choose a report your team can lawfully use and identify the passages that matter for the exercise. Project reference files support this approach.5 Bring a reviewer who knows the subject, so the session tests interpretation as well as summarising.
Is this only for scientists or developers?
The document exercises also suit advisers and practice administrators. Choose an intake note or proposal review for non-technical participants. Reserve Claude Code work for people able to inspect software changes and their tests.7
What can we take back to the practice?
Aim to leave with a checked example, a useful instruction set and an owner for the reference material. Build your review criteria around the risks in that task. A proposal needs different checks from a scientific literature brief.
Should every engagement share one Project?
Avoid mixing unrelated client contexts in the workshop. Projects can carry their own knowledge and instructions.5 Give each practice workflow a deliberate boundary, then have the document owner decide what staff may contribute and who should see the result.
