Education in Canterbury
Ara's vocational AI research spans disciplines including nursing, construction, business and design, while UC provides public guidance on responsible use.1,3 These local sources give staff a concrete basis for discussion. The workshop can examine a fictional programme team revising an activity, with the original learning outcome and a public reference beside the draft.
Projects supply Claude with a defined body of knowledge and instructions.4 Use them to keep the teaching criteria stable while trying alternative explanations. Ask the tool to identify where the source stops supporting the activity. The tutor then decides which examples aid learning and which merely make the worksheet look complete.
Paid employees in education went from 24,380 in February 2020 to 27,048 in February 2025 (+10.9%).

Local context
- Ara's Techweek education discussion covered adapting literacy and numeracy tasks as well as teacher planning.2 A training exercise can test those ideas with made-up learner needs and a public document. It should preserve the skill learners must demonstrate, rather than remove the challenge by supplying answers.2

Where Claude helps education teams
Check a unit plan against its outcome
Give Claude a fictional unit outline, the intended outcome and authorised reference material. Request a table linking each activity to the relevant skill and evidence. Review weak links yourself. A resource can cover the right topic yet fail to ask learners to do the thing the outcome requires.
- Programme and curriculum leads
- Projects and long document reading
Compare explanations for different readers
Ask Claude to draft contrasting explanations from a public technical passage. Keep key terms and qualifications explicit. The teacher checks each version for accuracy and decides what scaffolding belongs around it. Use invented profiles in the exercise so the comparison does not expose a student's support history.
- Teaching staff
- Project instructions for audience and scope
Prototype an interactive learning artifact
Claude can create editable artifacts, including small interactive tools.5 Build a fictional practice activity that reveals a hint after the learner explains their reasoning. Inspect every branch and feedback statement. Trial it with colleagues before any classroom use, and retain a teacher-led alternative when the interaction is unhelpful.
- Learning designers
- Artifacts
Review a sample classroom utility
Use Claude Code to examine an isolated tool that formats fabricated quiz items for staff review.6 Have a developer inspect its assumptions and test empty questions, duplicate labels and unusual punctuation. This is a technical learning exercise; connecting it to a learning-management system requires a separate authorised project.

- Claude Code
An activity review with evidence at each stage
- Choose a fictional unit outcome and a permission-cleared source passage.
- Set Project instructions to preserve technical terms and identify unsupported additions.
- Request an activity and work through it as a learner would.
- Compare the response with the teaching purpose, then approve an edited resource through your provider's process.

Education in Canterbury: questions
Must staff know programming to use artifacts?
A teacher can request and revise a draft through conversation. They still need to inspect what the artifact does and says. Bring a developer when the task requires integration, code maintenance or a technical review beyond the educator's role.
Can Projects hold a department's reference set?
They can use uploaded knowledge across project chats. Review what enters that knowledge set and who may access it. An approved curriculum extract is more suitable for a first exercise than a folder containing student work and confidential moderation records.4
Does local research permit AI in assessment?
The cited Ara and UC material provides context, not permission for another institution. Check the course's assessment rules and the provider's tool policy. The workshop can help staff develop review questions while those decisions remain with the institution.
Where can educators take this training?
We bring sessions to Canterbury schools, campuses and provider workplaces. Public workshop days offer an entry point for individual teachers. A department session can focus on a shared unit-plan problem and include the staff responsible for academic review.
